About Centenary College (Louisiana)

Centenary College of Louisiana was founded in 1845, when the College of Louisiana merged with Centenary College of Clinton, due to the fact that the College of Louisiana struggled financially and the only solution was to do so. The college prospered until the American Civil War began, when all students were forced by the circumstances to serve as soldiers. During the war, the old campus at Jackson was used as a Confederate hospital, being preserved today as a historical site, by the Louisiana Office of State Parks.

Today, Centenary College of Louisiana is known as the primarily science and liberal arts college in Shreveport, LA., being one of the founding members of the Associated Colleges of the South, which is a pedagogical organization that consists of 16 Southern liberal arts colleges.

The Centenary Gentlemen athletic teams, which represent the college in the NCAA Division I, are best known for their achievements in basketball.
